Feedback Method with Zagreb Dance Centre’s artists in residence

 

After testing the DasArts Feedback Method once, a year ago in Zagreb, during Martina Nevistić's working process on her piece Luna Malekova, the two of us decided to do a series of sessions in Zagreb Dance Centre with artists in residence during 2015 and probably continue doing it in the future.

The first session took place in April with a group of dance artists and musicians working on a piece entitled Invisible Time. The piece was commissioned by the Music Biennale Zagreb and co-produced by Zagreb Dance Centre. The choreographer is Melita Spahić Bezjak, music composition was made by Ana Horvat, the performers are Zvonimir Kvesić, the dancer, and Kaja Farszky, the percussionist.

Here's what Melita told us after the premiere:

 

«At first we didn't want to do it, we were afraid to open up to the audience like that just 10 days before the premiere. It scared us. But after the session we were all pleased with the fact that we went through with it because it was a very useful thing for us all. The timing couldn't be better, when the piece was almost finished but was still flexible for some fine-tuning with the costumes and the lighting. Going through the feedback method has cleared some stuff in our heads concerning the dramaturgy of the piece in particular and it gave us assurance in what we wanted to do. As advice I would say it's important how the author formulates the introductory question, in the beginning of the session, because I think my question wasn't the best one. The participants have put to much focus on what I've asked. We didn't change anything after the session but we are considering to make the very beginning of the piece longer. That was the comment we got from most of the feedback-ers but we couldn’t do it for the Biennale because of their program’s time limitations.»
